NounsNot numbers! Number are adjectives.
AdjectivesNumbers measure things. The things are the units. Numbers merely define the quantity or quality. Textbook math treats numbers as nouns. Sort of like abstract ideal platonic dimensionless entities. Or like saying "quickness + swiftness = much speed". No wonder math is boring. Get yourself a physics textbook and learn what numbers are actually useful for. AdverbsVerb or adjective modifiers
PrepositionsPrepositional phrases perform the functions of adjectives or adverbs. Mathematics tries to be very terse, so the prepositions are mainly evident when an equation is read aloud.
Interjections
PronounsVariables and constants stand in for numbers and their units. ConjunctionsEquations are usually simple phrases. Combining them is usually explained in English. ArticlesLatin doesn't need them, and neither does math. |
